In the spotlight: Q&A with Personal Stylist and Blogger Emily Jayne Phillips...

For this months 'In the Spotlight' feature we talk weddings, life lessons and fashion therapy with personal stylist (and blogger) Emily - Jayne Phillips...

Finish this sentence: The best thing about what I do is…

...Seeing people walk out of a colour or styling consultation feeling happier and more confident, and receiving lovely feedback from clients and photos of all their lovely new colourful clothes (I have literally been told 'It's like fashion therapy!') I am also grateful every day that I get to do something that I'm passionate about!

You love wearing colour and rarely wear black, what style from the Fever London AW14 collection would you choose to add to your already colourful wardrobe and where would you wear it to?

I chose the Folklore dress in Petrol - I love the blue-green and yellow colours in the pattern, perfect for Autumn. The elasticated smocked panels at the side make sure that it nips me in at the waist (and allows more room for pudding!) and I just adore a dress with pockets.

How would you accessorize your favourite Fever London style/outfit?

I dressed it up with heels and some colourful tights to go for dinner with friends, but I can see it being equally at home with chunky boots and a knit for casual wear as the weather gets colder.

Fever London travel the world for vintage inspiration, where would your ideal travel destination be and why?

I have so many destinations on my 'list' - I'd love to go to Japan for its rich history, colourful fashion influences and amazing food; to Australia to experience its beach and city cultures (and honestly? I'd love to visit the neighbours set!) and I'm really looking forward to a trip to Las Vegas in a few weeks time!

You have just got engaged, congratulations! You offer a selection of bridal image services, will you be taking your own advice for your big day?

Thank you! I am so excited! Absolutely - I already have in mind the shapes and fabrics that I want for my dream dress, and colour will definitely be a feature of the day - I'm currently planning a rainbow of bridesmaids!

What is your daily beauty regime?

I've been 'blessed' with fairly blemish-prone skin, so I have a fairly extensive routine to keep this at bay and to keep my skin in tip-top condition now I've hit the big 3-0.

Also, I find that using nice skin care products feels like a little treat or indulgence every day, which I really enjoy! In the morning I clay cleanse, use eye cream, a hydrating toner, a hyaluronic acid serum and a super hydrating moisturiser. In the evening I double cleanse, firstly with an oil and then with my clay cleanser, tone, eye cream, various serums and a rich eye cream.

You review beauty products on your blog, what one product could you definitely not live without and would be the first to recommend to your friends?

Not so much a product (as everyone's skin is different!) but double cleansing has made a massive difference to my skin and I recommend it to everyone! Go for an oil or balm first to remove your makeup, and then a targeted cleanser for your skin (I go for clay as I'm blemish-prone.)

If you had the chance, what life lesson would you tell your sixteen year old self?

That blogging thing where at the moment you just talk about Buffy and do general teenage moaning? It's going to be big, so get serious about it!  In all seriousness, I'd tell myself not to worry about not really knowing what you want to do with your life - the steps you take along the way to get there will include important lessons and experiences, and you will get there!

What important piece advice would you give to someone that wanted to create their own image consultancy/blog?

Styling - understand that it's about helping people to discover and develop their own style, not enforcing your own style on them.

Blogging - try to work out what you want to say, what your blog is about, but don't panic if this changes and evolves over time - your blog is a reflection of you as a person, and no one stays exactly the same!

Sum up what inspires you in three words…

Colour, Style, Life.
