Christmas party style advisor

As the festive season is fast approaching and the Christmas party is just around the corner, we are asking the same question that we ask every year… ‘What shall I wear?!’ Harriet our sales assistant/style advisor shares her tips on finding the perfect outfit.

The first three questions I always ask are what the theme of the party is. Vintage inspired, glitz and glamour or just party chic?  Who is your style icon? The chic and stylish Audrey Hepburn, the glamorous bombshell Marilyn Monroe or even Hollywood royalty, Grace Kelly? And what part of your body would you most like to hide or show off?!

So if one of your style icons is Kitty Collins from  the film ‘The Killers’ and the party is located in a stately home then I would definietly suggest the demure Agatha Dress. Or if you are a fan of Sandy from ‘Grease’ and the party is in a function hall then I would go for the 1950’s inspired  Valmoral Prom Dress.

As the weather will be freezing, I would suggest getting a matching bolero to cover up,  this also works well for the ladies who are not overly confident about showing off their arms.

The location of the party also plays a part, for an evening do in a ballroom you may want to go uber glam and wear a full length gown, whereas if it is in a club or a private function hall you may want to go for a 1960’s style, shift dress so you can dance the night away in style.

The best type of shoes I would suggest would be mid-height heels for comfort or killer heels for the full party effect, however I would suggest inserting some party feet gels in them, so you are not sat down all night nursing your blisters! Fold up ballet pumps are also a good idea and they will fit right in your teeny, tiny clutch bag!

If buying jewellery for your Christmas party is starting to tip your budget then we have a selection of reasonably priced gems here that I can help you match with your chosen outfit. Alternatively, you can use something that you already own or even ask a colleague if they have something you could borrow. If you have chosen a special number like our Starlight prom dress then you will not need any jewellery as this dress already has plenty of sparkle...
