Theresa Brill: Fever London Style Icon

We have always admired Theresa Brill's style from afar and think she always looks fabulous when we have seen her at many of our in-store events, her look is unique and eye-catching and we love the way she mixes vintage style with modern life. We were very lucky to receive some brilliant (sorry about the pun!) photos of Theresa, and had a quick chat to see what inspires her...

Who is your vintage style icon and why?

Whilst I adore the seemingly effortless style of many Hollywood movie stars of the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s, my vintage style icon has to be the marvellously talented woman that designed the clothes that these legends wore on screen, Edith Head.  Edith was a costume designer during the Paramount years – she spent 43 years (from 1924 to 1967) at Paramount and then moved to Universal Pictures in 1967.  During this time she designed amazing costumes for Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren, Dorothy Lamour, Marlene Dietrich, Carole Lombard, Mae West, Claudette Colbert, Paulette Goddard, Natalie Wood, Hedy Lamarr, to name just a few.  During her career she was nominated for 35 Academy Awards and won eight times – receiving more Oscars than any other woman.  What a legacy she left!

What is your favourite music?

I grew up in a house where my mother loved the sirens of song; the classic torch singers, most especially Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee, Etta James, Nina Simone, Dinah Washington and Sarah Vaughan.  My father in contrast loved the Gunfighter Ballads of Marty Robbins and the tenor, Mario Lanza!  As a result, I grew up also loving these artists but also developed a very open mind about all genres of music.  I have, in the past, sang in a jazz/swing/R’n’B band and currently play Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer.

What do you like most about Fever London and what is your favourite Fever style of all?

I love that Fever London is inspired by vintage prints and feminine silhouettes.  I also love that Fever London clothing fits me better than any other brand and that the garments are beautifully made.  90% of my wardrobe is taken up with Fever London designs and I frequently receive compliments when I am wearing Fever.  I have so many favourite Fever styles and I love that, as they are such timeless pieces, I can wear them from season to season, but currently my favourite Fever style is my Black Fitzrovia dress, which I adore.

What inspires you?

Travel, breathtaking landscapes, glamour, music that makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck, literature, film and art that moves me and changes my perspective on things and humanitarianism.

What are your favourite pieces from our new SS14 collection, so far?

I have lots of favourites from the collection so far but really love the Mabel Dress, the Fleur Dress, the Ingalls Dress, the Mayanmar Flare Dress and the Trudy Tweed Dress & Jacket. I love the global inspiration behind the collection and the Amalfi Coast backdrop to the shoot is perfect!

Can't wait to start adding them to my wardrobe!
